AMD FeatureAMD today announced a roadmap of near- and mid-term computing solutions that harness the best characteristics of both the x86 and ARM® ecosystems, called “ambidextrous computing.” The cornerstone of this roadmap is the announcement of AMD’s 64-bit ARM architecture license for the development of custom high-performance cores for high-growth markets. Today’s announcement also provides a forward-looking glimpse into AMD’s development plans to deliver truly unmatched ambidextrous computing and graphics performance using a shared, flexible infrastructure to enable its customers to blaze new paths of innovation for the embedded, server and client markets as well as semi-custom solutions.
The market for ARM- and x86-based processors is expected to grow to more than $85 billion by 2017. AMD is uniquely positioned as the only company delivering differentiated solutions capable of addressing the breadth of this market. This is the first time a major processor provider has created the IP path to allow others to leverage innovation across both ARM and x86 ecosystems.
AMD’s ambidextrous computing roadmap includes:
- “Project SkyBridge” – This design framework, available starting in 2015, will feature a new family of 20 nanometer APUs and SoCs that are expected to be the world’s first pin-compatible ARM and x86 processors.
- “K12” – A new high-performance, low-power ARM-based core that takes deep advantage of AMD’s ARM architectural license, extensive 64-bit design expertise, and a core development team led by Chief CPU Architect Jim Keller.
AMD today also publicly demonstrated for the first time its 64-bit ARM-based AMD Opteron™ A-Series processor, codenamed “Seattle,” running a Linux environment derived from the Fedora Project. The Fedora Project is a Red Hat-sponsored, community-driven Linux distribution, providing a familiar, enterprise class operating environment to developers and IT administrators worldwide.

Autodesk Maya LT 2015 on SteamGame designers from big or small studios will be able to gain easy access to the necessary design tools to make the sort of games they've always wanted, without requiring a massive budget or state of the art NASA tech. How will this be possible? Well, Autodesk has announced that Maya LT, a “light” version of the Maya animation and 3D sculpting tools will be made available on Steam.
Not only can you model and animate your character, but you can also texture and light your character, enabling you to get everything done from one source without having to import, export or transfer the file from one tool to the next, which is sort of what happens when you make objects in design tools like Zbrush, HDR Light Studio or Composer. Being able to get everything done in one fell swoop cuts down on both time and money, as you'll only need one tool to bring your characters to life and use them in engines and design environments that support OBJ and FBX formats.

The Foundry MARIWe're very excited to announce MARI 2.6 is now available to download, introducing powerful techniques specifically tailored to next generation games and real-time applications.
Painting in 3D has never been more fluid, natural and realistic than with MARI 2.6. Paint textures in context with a familiar layer based workflow that extends beyond the capabilities of Photoshop with a full GLSL shading system, matching VFX environment lighting and game engine shaders pixel to pixel.
Introducing MARI for game development workflows
MARI (now also available for the Mac) is capable of handling higher resolution textures than any other 3D painting application on the market. With the increased demands for high quality, high throughput complex shading workflows that don't inhibit artist creativity – MARI is a perfect solution.
Designed from the ground up to support complex shading and look development on large numbers of assets, MARI 2.6 provides game artists a powerful painting solution for editing layered shaders and multiple resolution textures maps that match pixel-for-pixel how they will appear in-engine. Now offering a physically correct real-time shading system, matching game engine shaders or production rendering MARI can significantly reduce costly back and fourth iterations.
