Blender 2.5 line headerThe Blender Foundation and online developer community is proud to present Blender 2.57a. This is the first stable release of the Blender 2.5 series, representing the culmination of many years of redesign and development work.
We name this version "Stable" not only because it's mostly feature complete, but especially thanks to the 1000s of fixes and feature updates we did since the 2.5 beta versions were published.
The next 2 months we will keep working on finishing a couple of left-over 2.5 targets and we expect to get feedback and bug reports from users to handle as well. If all goes well, the 2.58 version then can be the final release of the 2.5 series, with a massive amount of new projects to be added for an exciting cycle of 2.6x versions. Target is to release updates every 2 months this year.

Fusion 6.2Lateral thinking brings a different approach to generating volumetric effects and atmospherics. By putting these into the compositing phase, the production process provides far greater finishing artistry. The new Volume Mask tool, for example, is distilled from the Anonymous production to provide a versatile control over World Position Passes (WPP), to create volume fog, localized masking of 3D images for use in relighting and other effects in 3D.
Isolation of 3D areas within the images using the WWP, these remain fixed in moving scenes, so no animated masks or tracking is needed. These areas remain true to the 3D environment, even if the camera is moving.
The Fusion renderer outputs this expanded channel set, Fusion's extensive scene importing allows more control and workflow streamlining between 3D animation and compositing. Fusion renders those extra passes on the fly at lightning speed via GPUs so artists get what they need now.
Occluding using WPP gives the correct real world blending and fitting to the scene. This gives depth dependant results from the world point of view and not just the cameras point of view.
Relighting control takes a big step forward by coupling Fusion's model and scene importing and this versatile volume tool utilizing WWP, this taking finishing to a new level.
Fusion 6.2 Features:
- Fusion x64 for Linux, this includes Open CL supercomputing
- QuickTime support for Fusion x64, with support for Timecode, and greater than 8bit/channel codecs.
- Particle system updates with Particle Fuses and OCL Particle Fuses. Improved particle evaluation, providing more accurate and stable simulations.
- 3D Renderer Updated to render World Position Pass channels.
- WPP allows the artist to create a stereoscopic version from a single camera render.
- Updated RED R3D support to the latest version includes Epic and Scarlet support, as well as all the latest color science and controls.
- SVG importing, Scalable Vector Graphics, the open standard for 2D vector specs can be exported by a large array of applications and imported into Fusion.
- Open CL improvements including a new rays tool and ability to add a second low cost graphics card specifically for OCL supercomputing.
- Picking postion in 3D scenes or via WPP can be used for particle placements and object placements.

LightWave 10.1NewTek, a worldwide leader of 3D animation and video products, will showcase NewTek LightWave™ 10.1, the latest version of its Emmy® Award-winning 3D software, at NAB 2011 in Las Vegas. With advanced modeling and animation tools built to integrate into any production pipeline, LightWave 10.1 delivers new capabilities for 3D artists, such as a new off-axis stereoscopic camera rig option, an improved Viewport Preview Renderer (VPR), more powerful import and export capabilities with FBX, MDD, and integrated Autodesk Geometry Cache support, a new Skin material node, and more. Visit NewTek (booth SL4514) during NAB, April 11-14 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, to see the latest advancements in LightWave software.
With the continued growth of the stereoscopic 3D film, television and gaming markets, artists need powerful tools to help streamline stereoscopic content creation. LightWave 10.1 delivers, with access to all major stereo camera rigs-parallel, toe-in, and off-axis, allowing artists to correct for toe-in distortion in the animation pipeline, dynamically. Other enhancements include interactive OpenGL off-axis adjustment of the right and left camera planes, user-friendly click-and-drag convergence point adjustment in the viewport, and the ability to disable the anaglyph representation of the stereo camera in OpenGL. Also in LightWave 10.1, interocular and convergence point can both be animated dynamically over time to track stereo changes within a shot.
Using the LightWave VPR, artists can directly interact and easily adjust lights, textures, volumetrics and more, within the viewport. Artists can also use the VPR to view updates to deliver realistic environmental walkthroughs quickly, and perform virtual location scouts. LightWave 10.1 extends the functionality of VPR with the support of clip maps in the VPR render, the addition of object and distance dissolve, and improved nodal shaders like the new Skin material node that works with the VPR. The Skin material node uses a proprietary subsurface shading model for a simple "connect-and-go" way to create realistic looking skin.
LightWave 10.1 with integrated Autodesk Geometry Cache Support gives artists the ability to include or exclude models, morphs, animations, cameras and lights upon export. Other workflow features in LightWave 10.1 offer the ability to import joints as LightWave bones for greater compatibility with other programs; multi-threaded mesh evaluation optimization and sub-d mesh freezing acceleration; linear color space workflow improvements, including new support for .ICC / .ICM monitor profiles, and more.
