Side Effects Software, an industry leader in 3D animation and visual effects software, is proud to announce the immediate release of Houdini 13 which introduces a finite element solver for bending and tearing FX, a new multi-threaded particle architecture integrated into Houdini’s existing dynamics context and a new lighting workflow to efficiently handle massive datasets.
The Finite Element solver analyzes the stresses on solid objects, then either bends or breaks each shape. This new solver is ideal for creating realistic destruction shots or soft body FX with volume preservation.
Houdini 13’s new lighting workflow has been built to efficiently manage huge datasets. This new workflow offers a new data tree view for assigning materials and lights to the objects and groups found in Alembic files as well as Houdini’s new Packed Primitive objects. This new workflow is linear out of the box and combined with improvements to Mantra’s quality and performance offers a powerful and reliable lighting solution.
Houdini continues to support industry standards which make it easier for artists to work in a multi-application environment. OpenEXR 2 by ILM is now supported to allow for deep compositing of Mantra renderings in Nuke. Houdini 13 also incorporates OpenSubdiv from Pixar which provides viewport subdivision display, geometry-level refinement, native Mantra integration and support for crease weights.
This feature-rich release also includes an enhanced Bullet solver which is significantly faster, more scalable and more accurate. This solver also supports most geometry types out of the box and is even capable of operating on points. The FLIP fluid and Ocean FX tools in Houdini continue to evolve with a new mist solver; the splash tank, which gives artists the ability to add FLIP sims on top of Ocean surfaces; new shelf tools; and a new, faster Fluid surfacer.
Archmodels vol. 135 includes 40 professional, highly detailed 3d models for architectural visualizations. This collection comes with high quality outdoor sitting furniture with all textures and materials.

Autodesk continues to demonstrate its self-described love for Apple’s re-invigoriated Mac OS X platform with brand new 2014 versions of AutoCAD for Mac and AutoCAD LT for Mac. The new products feature new capabilities that are “customer driven” as well as new functions unique to the OS X platform environment and Apple’s Mac hardware innovations.
At the top of list of features that are unique to Apple’s OS X platform are full support for Apple’s Retina Display technology found on numerous new Macs. Apple’s Retina display technology provide industry-leading resolutions on laptop computers. Retina displays don’t sit behind a layer of glass, they are the glass. The result when combined with AutoCAD 2014 products is stunning never-seen-before clarity and sharpness of detail in a CAD application when running on a Mac with a Retina display.
AutoCAD 2014 for Mac is one of the first major professional software applications to supports Apple’s new Retina display.
Another major new feature is the support for Autodesk 360 that bring the AutoCAD for Mac product line in sync with the rest of the AutoCAD products and Autodesk 360 tools and services. Users are able to sync their documents with their Autodesk 360 cloud accounts. The complete list of major new features are:
- Apple Retina Display Support — Retina display support throughout the user interface with crisper lines and text, easier-to-see tools, and a much higher level of detail even at high zoom levels.
- Drawing Sync — Directly access files from Autodesk 360 and synchronize them between your computer and the cloud
- Package Drawing — Similar to eTransmit in AutoCAD for Windows, Package Drawing allows users to quickly collect related files into a compressed folder for easy distribution or storage
- Online Help — new in version 2014 is a major change in how to find help and assistance
- Default Save — As — Previous Version — It’s now possible to set a default save-as version for your drawings
- Security Enhancements — AutoCAD 2014 for Mac enhances software security and helps prevent loading and running “unauthorized or malicious” AutoLISP applications

Solving the decades-old problem of onscreen tearing, stuttering and lag, NVIDIA today unveiled NVIDIA G-SYNC™ technology which, for the first time, enables perfect synchronization between the GPU and the display.
The result is consistently smooth frame rates and ultrafast response not possible with previous display technologies.
Several years in the making, G-SYNC™ technology synchronizes the monitor's refresh rate to the GPU's render rate, so images display the moment they are rendered. Scenes appear instantly. Objects are sharper. Game play is smoother.
Since their earliest days, displays have had fixed refresh rates -- typically 60 times a second (hertz). But, due to the dynamic nature of video games, GPUs render frames at varying rates. As the GPU seeks to synchronize with the monitor, persistent tearing occurs. Turning on V-SYNC (or Vertical-SYNC) eliminates tearing but causes increased lag and stutter as the GPU and monitor refresh at different rates.
G-SYNC eliminates this tradeoff. It perfectly syncs the monitor to the GPU, regardless of frame rate, leading to uncompromised PC gaming experiences.
G-SYNC technology includes a G-SYNC module designed by NVIDIA and integrated into gaming monitors, as well as hardware and software incorporated into certain Kepler-based GPUs.
